Enjoy a refreshing treat in the sun with Greek iced chicory!

Chicorée Leroux frappé

Published on 14 August 2015

It’s a Sunday just like any other—mild and peaceful. A little relaxation on a lounge chair, a good novel, and the scent of blooming peonies. Need a blend of freshness and sweetness to go with it? We’ve got just what you need! An adaptation of the Greek iced coffee recipe with chicory: milder and more refreshing, it’s sure to delight young and old alike.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 to 2 tablespoons of instant chicory
  • a glass of cold water
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 4 or 5 ice cubes

1 – Pour the water, chicory, and ice cubes into a shaker. Add sugar to taste.

2 – Shake the shaker vigorously for 15 to 20 seconds. When you’re done, a thin layer of foam will form on top of your iced coffee.

3 – Serve in a wide glass.

Very popular in Greece, café frappé is traditionally made with—as its name suggests—instant coffee. Since chicory is caffeine-free, this adapted recipe can be enjoyed at any time of day, whether under the blazing sun or beneath a starry sky…

A little twist: a chilled chicory latte!

For an even creamier, more indulgent drink, replace the water with milk. You’ll end up with a chilled chicory latte!
