Why drink chicory in the evening?
-
Contains no caffeine
Caffeine is an exciting substance found in coffee, tea and cocoa. Chicory, whether the plant or the plant-based beverage we produce at Leroux, is naturally caffeine-free and excitant-free… Which makes it ideal before bedtime.
If you enjoy a hot drink after dinner, drinking chicory in the evening won’t disturb your sleep or keep you awake. And with its slightly caramelized taste, it provides the same dose of comfort as a cup of coffee or tea.

It is low in energy value
After a good meal, you can enjoy chicory without any hang-ups, because it’s also low in calories. A bowl of plain chicory in 250 ml of water, for example, provides just 16 kcal. Which isn’t much, given that the average energy needs of women aged 18 to 59 and men aged 18 to 69 are between 2,100 and 2,600 kcal per day respectively. 1.
Like fruit, plain, liquid, ground and granulated soluble chicory naturally contain sugars. More precisely, fructose, glucose and sucrose. But the Leroux range contains no added sugar!
Bonus: soluble chicory is rich in fibre
Yes, the little extra is that our soluble chicory is also rich in fiber. It contains 9.8 g of fibre per 100 kcal2..
Dietary fiber, you know, those components that stimulate intestinal function and have a gentle effect on transit (solubles). Fresh roots contain 80% inulin, in other words, dietary fiber2. .
Before you start cooking: chicory is suitable for gluten-free diets, as it is naturally gluten-free. It’s also 100% plant-based and 100% natural.
And how do you enjoy it?
In the evening, soluble chicory is ideal. Here you have 2 options: you can mix it with water. This is perfect for hydrating your body before that long period of fasting (in other words, before you go to sleep!). The other option, for extra indulgence, is to mix chicory in milk. It’s a slightly higher-calorie version, but if you opt for a plant-based milk, such as unsweetened almond milk, for example, the energy intake remains low.
Our quick and easy chicory recipe
