Noël

Published on 25 November 2019

Not so long ago, we were telling you about mulled wine or eggnog, also known as eggnog. Of course, these hot drinks for winter can also be enjoyed by the fireside at Christmas. Here are some other recipes that are just as tasty and just as festive.

Ingredients and recipes for the 10 best hot Christmas drinks (serves 6)

1. Hot cider* with spices

Slice an orange. Heat a bottle of raw cider with the orange. When it simmers, lower the heat and add a cinnamon stick, 2 cloves, 5 star anise and a split vanilla pod. Leave to infuse for 10 minutes, strain and serve hot.

2. Alcohol-free alternative: apple juice with spices

Pour 1 liter of apple juice into a saucepan, then add a cinnamon stick, 2 cm of peeled and chopped ginger, 5 star anise, the juice of ½ lemon, and a tablespoon of honey. Heat, and when simmering, lower the heat. Leave to infuse for 10 minutes, strain and serve hot.

3. Hot white chocolate with chestnut cream

Pour 1 l of milk into a saucepan, and add 200 g of white chocolate pieces. Stir over low heat until smooth. Add 3 tablespoons of chestnut cream, still stirring over low heat. Serve warm.

4. Coffee with vegetable milk and spices

For one person, in a large cup: pour an espresso, and add 5 cl of plant milk (almond, for example), 1 cinnamon stick, 1 pinch of nutmeg and 1 teaspoon of honey.

5. Chicory with milk and spices

Yes, it’s the same recipe, except that here you can replace the espresso with plain plain instant chicory. In a mug, add 2 teaspoons of chicory and the equivalent of a cup of simmering milk, cinnamon, nutmeg and honey.

6. Christmas toddy

Remove the zest and juice from one lemon, and the juice from one orange. Bring 75 cl of water to the boil, then add the zest, 1 cinnamon stick, 2 star anise and a clove. Leave to infuse for 30 minutes over low heat. Cut the heat, add 25 cl dark rum and strain. Add citrus juice and 3 tablespoons honey. Warm before serving.

7. Hot chocolate with salted butter caramel

Heat 1 l milk, and add 250 g dark chocolate, a split vanilla pod and 4 tablespoons salted butter caramel over low heat. Whisk until well blended. Serve warm.

8. Soft warm milk

Heat 1 l of milk, add 4 tablespoons of honey and a pinch of cinnamon. It’s as simple (and delicious) as that! Enjoy warm.

9. Other hot marshmallow milk

Same recipe as above… except that you can add between 6 and 8 small marshmallows to this one (which will melt deliciously).

10. Christmas infusion

Bring 1 l water to the boil. When it comes to the boil, turn off the heat and add: 4 cm of peeled, chopped ginger, the juice of 2 lemons and 4 tablespoons of honey. Stir and serve hot.
