Chicory is a root, a drink and a culinary aid!
Chicory comes from a root, so it’s 100% plant-based. Sown in spring in the great plains of northern France, chicory roots are harvested in autumn and then processed at the Chicorée Leroux plants in Orchies (59). Processing involves roasting, crushing, extraction and atomisation. The products are therefore free from added sugars, containing only naturally-occurring sugars, whose content remains low. Chicory is also naturally free from caffeine and other stimulants*.
Chicory, a drink for a balanced breakfast
Chicory is one of the few morning drinks made in France. In its soluble form (plain, cocoa, caramel), it is a low-calorie drink and a source of fibre. Mixed with water, it helps to hydrate the body. It’s an ideal way of adding a delicious caramel flavour to water, while keeping the energy content of the drink low. It also helps you to consume the recommended amount of water per day (at least 2 litres according to the EFSA and as much as you like according to the PNNS).
